Ekuiti Nasional Berhad, or Ekuinas, is a private equity fund management company established by the Government of Malaysia on 1 September 2009 to promote equitable and sustainable Bumiputera economic participation via the creation of Malaysia's next generation of leading companies.
The Government's endowment to Ekuinas is provided in the form of a grant to be held in trust by Yayasan Ekuiti Nasional (YEN), a specific trust whose mandate is to enhance and grow Bumiputera equity interest. The funds are invested in high potential medium-sized Malaysian companies through the private equity approach in a merit-based, market-friendly and transparent manner which contributes towards the Government's aim towards achieving a more inclusive economic model.
Objectives
Ekuinas is a commercially driven organisation with the primary objective of delivering financial value on its investments and firmly believes that only through financial discipline can the social objectives it pursues be sustainably achieved. To ensure its results are sustainable, the Company is committed to pursuing its goals in a market-friendly, merit-based and transparent manner.
Through its investments, Ekuinas also aims to promote and strengthen equitable Bumiputera participation within the Malaysian economy across four key dimensions:-
• Enhancing corporate equity ownership;
• Enhancing management participation and entrepreneurship;
• Increasing meaningful employment; and
• Improving the supply chain.
Investment Operations
Ekuinas undertakes its investments via two distinct operations:
• Direct Investments - where it invests directly in high potential companies; and
• Outsourced Programme - where Ekuinas appoints third party private equity managers to manage allocated funds and undertake investments on its behalf.
To date, Ekuinas has invested in a total of 39 companies under direct and outsourced investments since its establishment amounting to RM3 billion under the Direct investment and Outsourced Programme, involved in the business of education, oil and gas, services, fast moving consumer goods, retail and F&B.
Kumpulan Wang Persaraan (Diperbadankan)("KWAP")
Kumpulan Wang Persaraan (Diperbadankan)("KWAP") or the Retirement Fund (Incorporated) was established on 1st March 2007 under the Retirement Fund Act 2007(Act 662) replacing the repealed Pensions Trust Fund Act 1991 (Act 454).
The Pensions Trust Fund Act 1991 (Act 454) was enacted to assist the Federal Government in funding its pension liability. With the enactment of this Act, the Pensions Trust Fund was established on 1 June 1991 with a launching grant of RM500 million from the Federal Government. The Pensions Trust Fund was administered by the Pensions Trust Fund Council with the Accountant General of Malaysia being responsible for the day to day administration and management of the affairs of the Pensions Trust Fund.
With the incorporation of KWAP, all powers, functions, activities, assets and liabilities of the Pensions Trust Fund were taken over in totality by KWAP.
Objective
The objective of KWAP is to manage the fund ("the Fund") established under Section 13 of Retirement Fund Act 2007 (Act 662) towards achieving optimum returns on its investments. The Fund shall be applied towards assisting the Federal Government in financing its pension liability.
Functions
The functions of KWAP are as follows:
• Management of contributions from the Federal Government, Statutory Bodies, Local Authorities and other Agencies; and
• Administration, management and investment of the Fund in equity, fixed income securities, money market instruments and other forms of investments as permitted under the Retirement Fund Act 2007 (Act 662); and
• Management and payment of pension.

The Singapore Venture Capital & Private Equity Association (SVCA) was formed in 1992 under the patronage of the Economic Development Board to promote the development of the venture capital (VC) and private equity (PE) industry.
